“That single moment just made the kid’s entire life.”
Metallica fulfilled one young fan’s “dream come true” by inviting him onstage, much to his mother’s utter astonishment.
Earlier this week, Anne Watson and her son Russell attended Metallica’s recent concert in Chicago like any other fans. During the show, Russell wanted a closer view of the band, and with a gentle push from his mother, he gathered his courage and moved further into the crowd.
“He ran off, and then I lost sight of him,” Anne recounted.
Feeling increasingly anxious about her son’s location, she quickly closed her eyes and asked her late husband to keep an eye on Russell.
It turns out he did even more! To Anne’s astonishment, fellow concertgoers pointed to the stage and asked, “Is THAT your child??”
Russell was up on stage, sitting on Lars Ulrich’s drum kit, living out his dream.
Anne said she was overwhelmed with emotion, bursting into tears and exclaiming, “Holy shit, that’s my son! That’s my kid!”—which, let’s face it, was the only fitting reaction.
With rock fans being some of the kindest people around, the crowd rallied to help Anne move to the front of the stage so she could watch her son headbang to ‘The Unforgiven.’
“Dreams DO come true 🖤🙏 Thank you, Lars, for being such a genuinely kind and amazing person—words can’t express what this meant to my son Russell,” Anne shared on Instagram.
Russell even felt his late father’s presence in the hug Lars gave him after the show.
“He’s a different kid now, in the BEST way possible,” Anne continued. “My mom-heart is bursting with gratitude 🙌🖤🙏. Metallica, we love you forever.”
Fans flooded the comments, thrilled for Russell. One wrote: “Core memory cemented in. What an incredible experience for the young lad.”
“Just made that kid’s entire life in a single moment 🤘🔥,” added another.
The official Metallica account commented: “It was awesome to share the stage with your son 🤘🖤.”
This is definitely a story to cherish for years to come. Well done, Russell!
