Metallica have paid tribute to a fan who passed away at their concert last week.
During their performance at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada, on August 23, 2024, as part of their ‘M72 World Tour,’ the band expressed their condolences to the family of Lorne, affectionately known as Viking. They shared their sadness over his passing and their appreciation that he spent some of his final moments with them.
In an Instagram post, Metallica wrote: “On Friday night, August 23, in Edmonton, we lost a member of the Metallica family at our show due to health complications. While it’s heartbreaking to lose someone, we’re grateful that he shared part of his final moments with us. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Lorne ‘Viking.’”
Lorne reportedly received intensive CPR after falling ill in the VIP area, but unfortunately, he did not survive. Erika Oldale, a friend of Lorne, shared her sorrow on Facebook, detailing the efforts made to save him and the outpouring of support from the concert community. She described Lorne as a kind soul and encouraged fans to honor him by enjoying Metallica’s music.
